Rivers of Steel – Carrie Furnace Tour & Lunch at The Pump House | Morning & Afternoon

Start the trip with a historical and engineering-focused experience at the Carrie Blast Furnaces, a National Historic Landmark. This guided tour from Rivers of Steel explores Pittsburgh’s industrial past, showcasing the science of metallurgy, the engineering behind steel production, and the impact of industrialization on the region. Following the tour, students will enjoy a boxed lunch at The Pump House, a historic site that played a key role in the 1892 Homestead Steel Strike. Discussions will cover workers’ rights, economic shifts, and technological advancements in manufacturing.

In the evening, students will embark on a Gateway Clipper Sightseeing Tour, offering a unique perspective on Pittsburgh’s bridges, rivers, and architectural engineering. This guided cruise highlights:

Students will experience the performing arts with a professional matinee show in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. This interactive experience provides insight into:

• Acoustics and sound engineering in live performances.
• The role of art and storytelling in cultural history and innovation.

Heinz History Center | Afternoon

Conclude the trip at the Senator John Heinz History Center, Pennsylvania’s largest history museum. This Smithsonian-affiliated institution provides hands-on experiences related to:
